Copyright and License for Journal Views

At Views, we are committed to ensuring the highest level of academic integrity and respect for intellectual property. This Copyright and License policy outlines the rights of authors, the journal, and the public concerning the content published in Views.

1. Copyright Ownership

  • Author’s Copyright: Authors retain full copyright to their work upon acceptance for publication in Views. This means that authors have the right to reproduce, distribute, and otherwise use their work in any way they choose, subject to the terms of the Creative Commons License provided by the journal.

  • Copyright Transfer to Journal: Upon acceptance of an article for publication, authors are required to grant Views a license to publish the article in the journal and to distribute it under the terms outlined below. This license allows Views to make the article publicly available online and ensure its inclusion in various repositories, databases, and archives.

2. Creative Commons License

In the digital age, academic collaboration and the open sharing of knowledge have become central to advancing research and innovation. As part of this movement, the Views Journal adopts the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license to foster open access to scholarly works, promoting both freedom and responsibility in the dissemination of knowledge.

Under the CC BY-SA license, authors who publish in Views retain their intellectual property rights while allowing others to freely use, adapt, and build upon their work. The Attribution (BY) aspect requires that all users of the work properly credit the original authors, acknowledging their contribution in any subsequent use or modification of the research.

The ShareAlike (SA) component of the license ensures that any derivatives or adaptations of the work—whether in the form of articles, studies, or other scholarly outputs—must be shared under the same CC BY-SA license. This stipulation guarantees that any future contributions to the body of knowledge remain open and freely accessible to others, preserving the spirit of academic sharing and collaboration.

For readers and researchers, this means that the articles published in Views can be freely accessed, shared, and even adapted to fit new contexts, as long as the original creators are credited and new works are similarly licensed. This encourages a cycle of continuous learning, where research can be built upon, remixed, and refined by others in the academic community, fostering innovation and broadening the impact of the work.

By adopting the CC BY-SA license, Views affirms its commitment to making academic research more accessible, collaborative, and open, in line with global movements toward open access and knowledge equity. This approach ensures that both the integrity of the original work and the ongoing expansion of knowledge are protected and nurtured within the scholarly community.

All articles can be used under the CC-BY-SA license
Creative Commons License
You are free to:
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
  • for any purpose, even commercially.
  • The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.

Under the following terms:

  • Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.

  • ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

  • No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

3. Open Access Policy

Views follows an open-access model, meaning that all articles are freely available to anyone, anywhere, at no cost. Authors and readers can access, download, and share the content without restrictions, which promotes the broad dissemination of scholarly research.

  • No Subscription Fees: Readers can access all content published in Views without any subscription or paywall.

  • Wide Dissemination: The open-access model supports the global exchange of knowledge, allowing authors to reach a wider audience and ensuring that research is accessible to all.

4. Author’s Rights under the CC BY-SA License

When an author chooses to publish their work under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license, they maintain certain rights over their intellectual property, while allowing others to use, modify, and share their work freely. Here's a breakdown of what rights the author retains and how they are protected:

Right to Attribution (BY):

  • The CC BY-SA license ensures that authors always receive proper attribution for their work. This means that whenever someone uses, shares, or builds upon the work, they must give appropriate credit to the author.

  • The attribution requirement ensures that authors retain recognition for their contribution, even if their work is adapted, shared, or redistributed. The attribution must be done in a manner that is reasonable and does not suggest that the author endorses the subsequent use of the work unless that’s explicitly the case.

Right to Share and Distribute the Work:

  • Authors retain the right to share their original work, whether it is published elsewhere or used for other purposes. The CC BY-SA license does not restrict the author from distributing their work in any way they choose (e.g., on personal websites, academic repositories, or through commercial channels).

  • Authors can also grant permission to others to share or redistribute their work freely under the same terms, ensuring that access to knowledge is maximized.

Right to Modify the Work:

  • The ShareAlike (SA) condition allows others to remix, adapt, or transform the work into new versions. However, the author retains the right to create derivative works themselves and to ensure that any modifications to their original work remain open and available to the public under the same CC BY-SA license.

  • The ShareAlike clause requires that any adaptations or new works based on the original must also be licensed under the CC BY-SA license. This ensures that the work remains open and accessible to others, preventing exclusive, proprietary claims on modifications.

Right to Use the Work for Commercial or Non-Commercial Purposes

  • The CC BY-SA license does not impose restrictions on how the work can be used. Authors retain the right to allow commercial or non-commercial uses of their work by others. While others can use the work for profit, they are still required to provide attribution and share any adaptations under the same terms.

  • Authors can also continue to use the work for their own purposes, whether academic, commercial, or personal, without restriction.

Right to Revocation (Limited)

  • While CC BY-SA licenses are generally irrevocable once granted, authors may remove their work from certain platforms or repositories. However, works that have already been distributed under the license remain subject to the terms of the original license (i.e., others can continue to use and share them under CC BY-SA).

5. Permissions and Reprints

  • Reprints: Authors wishing to use their published work in another format (such as books or conference proceedings) or require reprints for commercial use should contact the journal to obtain permission. In such cases, authors may need to pay a fee for reprints, depending on the usage.

  • Third-Party Content: If your article includes content (such as figures, tables, or text) that is copyrighted by a third party, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to use that content and for ensuring that appropriate attribution is provided.

6. Publisher’s Rights

By submitting an article to Views, authors grant the journal the following rights:

  • Right to Publish: Views has the right to publish and distribute the article worldwide through both digital and print formats.

  • Right to Edit: The journal may edit the article for clarity, style, and formatting, with the understanding that the original meaning and content of the article will be maintained.

  • Right to Archive: Views reserves the right to store and archive the article in databases, repositories, and digital libraries to ensure long-term accessibility.

7. No Exclusive Publishing Rights

The journal does not require authors to grant Views exclusive publishing rights. This means that authors can publish their article in other venues or journals, provided they comply with the policies of the other venues. However, Views asks that authors clearly cite their previous publication in the journal when submitting or republishing the article elsewhere.

8. Revisions and Updates

In cases where an article requires correction, retraction, or a major update after publication, Views will issue a formal correction notice or retraction statement. These updates will be clearly linked to the original article to maintain the article's historical accuracy while ensuring that readers have access to the most up-to-date version of the work.

9. Conflict of Interest

Authors are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest at the time of submission. If a conflict of interest arises after publication, authors should notify the journal immediately, and appropriate actions, such as issuing a correction or retraction, will be taken.

10. Article Withdrawal

Once an article is accepted and published in Views, it is generally not subject to withdrawal except in cases of significant error or misconduct. If an article is withdrawn, it will remain accessible in the archives but will be clearly marked as "withdrawn."
